Manage My Account
With DPU's Online payment Services, you have an online tool at your fingertips to help you manage your accounts and pay your utility bills online. View & Pay Bill
The Department of Public Utilities Manager Tommy Miller announced DPU will refund slightly more than $458,359 to all electric customers in the form of a credit on their February bills.
The refund will be based on January usage, averaging $5 to $7 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours.
"We are pleased a settlement has been reached," Miller said. "Our staff worked very hard during this process, and that hard work is now paying dividends to our customers in the form of one of the largest refunds in DPU history."
"In good faith, we think it should be returned to the customers."
In December 2009, South Carolina Electric & Gas Transmission Services filed for a rate increase with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. In conjunction with other SCE&G transmission customers, Orangeburg DPU filed a motion to intervene.
Miller said SCE&G settled with the intervening customers in May 2011. The settlement was approved by FERC on Oct. 21.

Did you know?
Electronics such as clocks, microwave ovens, and cell phone chargers consume energy when they're plugged in - even if they're not in use. In fact, 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while they're turned off. Fortunately, it's easy to combat these "phantom loads" and slash your home energy consumption. Simply unplug electronics, chargers, and appliances when they're not in use. Or plug them into a smart power strip which stops power flow when an appliance is switched off.
Americans generated around 77 million tons of waste from paper and paperboard in 2008.
Try This....
Scrape dirty dishes. Scraping your dishes clean rather than rinsing them can save up to 20 gallons of water before you even load the dishwasher. If you must rinse, use cold water and don't leave the water running.
Buy sustainably harvested wood. The next time you tackle a home improvement project, buy wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC supports environmentally and socially responsible forest management practices that promote healthy forest.
Opt for reusable bags. Paper and plastic bags require major resources for production - and most end up in landfills after they're used. Reduce that waste (and make carrying groceries easier) by toting reusable shopping bags.
