How Much Electricity Do Your Appliances Use?
The Department of Public Utilities determines your electric bill by measuring how many kilowatt hours, or kWh, you use. One kilowatt hour is equal to operating a 100-watt light bulb for 10 hours.
The chart below gives you the average monthly amount of kilowatt hours for each appliance. To determine an average monthly charge, follow this formula:
Multiply the kWh per month times 6 cents*. The answer will be the average appliance operating cost each month. (6 cents is the average cost of a kilowatt hour.)
Remember…..
….other factors can affect how much energy your appliance uses, including its location and how the appliance is used.
