The Department of Public Utilities is a public power utility--one of over 2,000 in the United States. Operated as a not-for-profit public service. DPU is overseen by a publicly elected City Council. Orangeburg area residents are not only consumers, but owners as well--using elected officals to decide how DPU will be operated.

 

Because our mandate is to provide the highest quality of service to the customers that depend on us, we have a significant stake in the economic well being of the Orangeburg area. We feel it is very important to be a viable partner in economic development, with local entities dedicated to that mission.

 

As a proud supporter of the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Organization (DORA), and the Orangeburg County Economic Development team, we are aggressively seeking to attract new business and industry to our area. Through our commitment to the some of the lowest rates in the state, we feel that we also help existing business have the resources to expand.

Our greatest service is our desire to hear from our customers. To provide the level of service that is expected, we must listen to, and act upon, all customer suggestions and requests. By providing that open line of communication, we establish a partnership with our customers that is mutually beneficial.

 

For over 100 years, DPU has been committed to maintaining a staff of competent, well-trained employees, dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and economical utility services for our customers. DPU Adminstrative... Our customers are entittled to efficient service from knowledgeable, motivated, and well trained representatives. We listen to our customers and respond to their suggestions and concerns. Here at The Department of Public Utilities, Customers are our first pirority.

 

DPU Electric... The Department of Public Utilities,City of Orangeburg is the largest municipal electric utility in the state of South Carolina.

 

DPU Gas... The company profile of the Gas Division is rich in history with many traditions. Because of quality service, low rates and customer satisfaction, we can take pride in knowing our jobs, are "jobs well done".

 

DPU Water... Our water division serves over 60,000 customers with high quality potable water. Our water distribution system consists of nearly 500 miles of piperanging in size from 2" to 36" and covers appoximately 300 square miles in Orangeburg and Calhoun County.

 

DPU Wastewater... The Wastewater Division is one of four notable divisions at the Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities. The Wastewater Division provides Collection System, and an excellent Wastewater Treatment Plant.
